The Ohia Leaf sculpture
Blown – Carved – Glass / 16″ x 11″
The Ohia Leaf Sculpture is inspired by the microscopic structure of this leaf. One side is designed as the cuticle surface = it absorbs sunlight and moisture. The other side refers to the stomata = part of the leaf that breathes. The Ohia leaf is the only known leaf that can hold it’s breath, in the conditions where vog, or volcanic smoke, may suffocate other plants.
Hawaii’s beauty and its interesting plants and volcanoes are the muse and source of inspiration for Daniel’s vessels and sculptures.
