The Kohola Kilauea vase
The Kohola Kilauea vase series is inspired by the “Gentle giants of the sea,” the humpback whales. One of the largest species of whales.
Each winter the humpbacks arrive in Hawaii from their summer feeding grounds in Alaska. Here they put on magnificent water shows by breaching into the air and re-entering the water with a giant splash. Female humpbacks give birth and nurse their young in Hawaii.
Native Hawaiians believe Kohola are ‘aumakua (family guardians) or gentle giants to be treated with Aloha and great respect.
